Our Mission

The 152 Commonwealth Foundation is dedicated to making grants or loans to the Chilton Club for the purpose of maintaining, restoring, or rebuilding the exterior of the historic buildings at 150-152 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston, Massachusetts. The Foundation’s mission is to ensure continued public enjoyment of the property as part of Boston’s Back Bay Architectural District.

Our Purpose

The Foundation will make grants and possibly loans to the Club to support the historic exterior of the structure on the property to allow the public to continue to enjoy the property. All grants and loans will be made subject to a requirement that the funds be used exclusively to support charitable purposes and may be made subject to written or oral agreements. Such grants might be made, for example, to restore or rebuild the slate roof of the structure, repair chimneys, and for similar purposes relating to the historic exterior. Records will be maintained of all grants and loans and of the purposes for which made. The Foundation is permitted to make grants or loans to organizations other than the Club for similar purposes, however no such grants or loans will be made unless all the needs of the Club have been met. In that case the recipient organization will be selected because it is engaged in historic and artistic programs consistent with those undertaken by the Foundation. Careful supervision of each grant and loan will be undertaken.

At present, the Foundation intends to make grants or loans only to restore or maintain the exterior of the structure.  Many thousands of members of the public enjoy the exterior of the Club annually as they walk through the historic Back Bay and visit Boston’s Freedom Trail.
